With less than 48 hours before we begin yet another amazing year, we’re feeling a little melancholy. Okay, maybe not, but we still want to talk about the good stuff that happened this year in the world of karaoke. So sit back, relax, and let’s take a short trip down memory lane as we look at some of Karaoke Cloud‘s best of 2013… as I see it, at least.

Karaoke Rescue Comes From Boyz II Men: I love to watch people’s reactions when celebrities make surprise appearances. This may have been a car commercial, but when Boyz II Men shows up to help a guy sing to his girlfriend in a karaoke club… well, that’s just awesome!

Ten people you meet at karaokeI only began working with DigiTrax/Karaoke Cloud in October of this year, but going back and reading previous blogs I have to say that this is definitely one of my favorites from 2013. Why? Because it’s so true! Everyone from the “Diva” to the “Newbie,” they exist! And if you’ve spent more than an hour in a karaoke club there’s a very good chance you’ve had the, um… pleasure of meeting them.

“They’re Heeeeere…” Sing-N-Share hits Google Play with thousands of free tracks from Karaoke Cloud: This was a very recent post, but from a business aspect it was also one of our biggest. The Sing-N-Share app is one of DigiTrax Entertainment’s crown jewels and we are extremely proud of everyone who came together to make it a reality! Very special shout outs to the geniuses at Deansoft for developing the tech and our friends at LiveRail for making the app free to everyone through their premium mobile video ads. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication and to you, our loyal friends and readers, for making Sing-N-Share a success!

Forget About Dre? No way, says karaoke ace!I’m not trying to toot my own horn, but this was the very first blog I wrote for Karaoke Cloud. This kid (Vincent Marcus) grabbed my attention with his amazing ability to flow and imitate two of my favorite rap artists of all time, Dr. Dre and Eminem. So, in all honesty it’s Vincent’s horn that’s being tooted here, not mine. 🙂

Squared-away Karaoke CEO Started Out PunkFor those of you who haven’t had the chance to read it yet, this article deals with our very own CEO and visionary, Joseph Vangieri! Karaoke Cloud/DigiTrax Entertainment owes all of its success to Joe for his pioneering spirit and business savvy, but he also happens to be a pretty interesting guy. From punk rocker to CEO? That’s pretty damn cool.

Music Genius Mark Radice Joins DigiTrax EntertainmentWe were absolutely ecstatic when Mark Radice agreed to join our team at DigiTrax! With his experience and undeniable musical talent, who wouldn’t be! Not only has Mark been responsible for many of the songs heard on the beloved children’s show Sesame Street (not to mention credits with some “small-time” bands/artists like Aerosmith and Gene Simmons), but the fact that he’s been blessed with what is known as “absolute pitch” makes him the perfect person to take the helm in creating pitch-perfect re-creations of hit songs!

KaraokeOnVEVO Surpasses Quarter-Million Mark in 6 MonthsNot too shabby for a “test product.” When we first started KoV (KaraokeOnVEVO) in order to see if there was a demand for free karaoke on social media we had no idea what kind of response we would get. It’s been overwhelming to say the least! When you consider that the amount of views has jumped another 7 million and subscribers by 25 thousand since we posted the blog last month…wow.

“Play a Tab” And Peavey: Avengers Assembled!Another huge coup for us in 2013 was the announcement of a joint-venture between guitar industry giants Peavey and DigiTrax Entertainment regarding our new innovative Play a Tab app! Working hand-in-hand with Peavey is an absolute honor, but to have our guitar-learning software actually packaged with their world-class products makes us almost speechless. Almost.

My friends, I hope you all had a great 2013 and we wish you the very happiest of new years! We’re looking forward to making even bigger strides in the digital interactive music industry in 2014 and can’t wait to see what our next “year in review” will hold!

Before we begin counting down the hits (*Casey Kasem’s voice ringing in my head*), I just want to say that we hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. And as we begin wrapping up 2013 and moving inexorably toward 2014 we wish you all the happiest of new years!

Earlier this month, Youtube’s KaraokeOnVEVO channel -with content provided solely by DigiTrax Entertainment- released its list of the top-10 karaoke videos of 2013. The story has even been picked up by the Huffington Post and Time Magazine so we’re not talking small potatoes here, folks!

Now, just for you, our loyal readers, we give you the complete rundown. We start with…

#5 – Everything Has Changed (ITSO Taylor Swift ftg. Ed Sheeran): Pretty much anything Taylor Swift touches turns to gold. This duet, the 6th single released from Taylor’s 2012 studio album, Red, received critical acclaim from multiple sources including Billboard and About.com. The song peaked at #32 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and took the #8 spot on the US Adult Top 40.

#4 – Counting Stars (ITSO One Republic): Formed in 2003, the American pop rock band One Republic is no stranger to success with their most popular song, Apologize, topping the charts in sixteen different countries including an 8-week stint at the top of the US Billboard Hot 100. Counting Stars is their most successful single since that mega-hit as the song took the #3 spot on the Hot 100 and soared to #1 on several other charts both domestically and internationally.

#3 – Love On Top (ITSO Beyoncé): Let’s face it, pretty much everybody loves Beyoncé. She’s talented, beautiful, hot as hell, and the girl can move! “Love on Top” hit the ground running with its debut at #20 on the US Billboard Hot 100 (Beyoncé’s 2nd highest debut) and dominated the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at #1 for seven consecutive weeks. The song also won the singer her 17th Grammy Award with “Best Traditional R&B Performance.”

#2 – Listen (ITSO Beyoncé): Surprise, surprise! Beyoncé again?! No waaayy… Yes way! Wow. Anyone else having Wayne’s World flashbacks? The former front-woman of Destiny’s Child dances her way onto our list again with her hit Listen from the 2006 musical Dreamgirls. The song debuted on the soundtrack album “Dreamgirls: Music from the Motion Picture” and was released by Columbia House as the lead single from that album.

Karaoke Christmas Bundle Spotlight: “Jingle Bells”

Jingle bells

Only two more days before Christmas!! I don’t know about you, but I turn into a little kid again at this time of year. Like millions of people across the world, one of my favorite Christmas songs when I was a kid was “Jingle Bells.” Upbeat and care-free, Jingle Bells is a perfect representation of the Christmas spirit, but did you know that it wasn’t originally intended to be a Christmas song at all?

One of the best-known Christmas carols of all time, Jingle Bells was written by James Lord Pierpont and published in the fall of 1857 with the original title “One Horse Open Sleigh.” Though it has become a mainstay of Western Christmas tradition, the song was originally meant to be sung as a celebration of another popular American holiday, Thanksgiving.

Though speculation varies with regard to exactly where and when Pierpont actually penned the song, the subject matter is much less vague. According to the Medford Historical Society in Medford, Massachusetts (in which Pierpont lived for a brief time with his wife and three children), Jingle Bells was inspired by the popular sleigh races held in the town through the 19th century.

Since its original phonograph (Edison) cylinder recording by the Edison Male Quartette in 1898, Jingle Bells has been performed and recorded by multiple artists, including Lois Armstrong, Nat King Cole, The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, and ‘N Sync.

And now it’s your turn! Whether it’s the more updated urban version below (found on our KaraokeOnVEVO Youtube channel) or the more traditional version available on both Karaoke Cloud and our free Sing-N-Share app, it’s time to do your best tribute to this beloved Christmas classic. Peace and joy, my friends!

“They’re Heeeeere…” Sing-N-Share hits Google Play with thousands of free tracks from Karaoke Cloud!

The wait is over! Sing-N-Share is now available on Google Play for all Android devices and it’s rolling out to rave reviews and 5-star ratings.

DigiTrax is excited to announce that it’s new mobile-karaoke app is now available to Android users and is awaiting final approval for release in the Apple App Store. With Sing-N-Share you’ll have access to thousands upon thousands of hit songs that you can sing, record, and share through social media anywhere at anytime.

“I have a lot of fun with this app!” stated one user in his review, “Especially since I am way too shy to sing in front of a bunch of people.” Another user said “This thing is awesome!!!!! My friends and I have started singing competitions!” Great idea! Bring your friends and family closer together through a little friendly competition. 🙂

My friends, I’ve used the app myself. I’m not big on singing in front of people, but I’m really having fun with this thing! I like all sorts music but I’m particularly fond of 90’s alternative and pop rock. Those were my high school and college years after all! Yesterday, I sang and recorded my own rendition of “Found Out About You” (originally performed by the Gin Blossoms). The track was beautifully produced and sounded so close to the original it was amazing. I recorded it and then posted it on Facebook, taking no small amount of courage on my part, with no problems whatsoever.

Try it! I promise you’ll like. It’s free, easy to use, and a lot of fun. Get it here in the Google Play store. If you’re an iPhone/iPad person, fear not. You’ll have your chance to join in the fun very, very soon!

Karaoke Christmas Bundle Spotlight: “Deck the Halls”

Deck The Halls

Seven more days until Christmas! It truly is the most wonderful time of the year (though, tied with football season in my book). Once more we delve into the days of yore as we look at the origins and history of yet another seasonal favorite, “Deck The Halls!”

The origin of Deck The Halls is one of collaboration and evolution as opposed to a firm date of creation. The song’s earliest roots stretch back to the 16th century and the Welsh winter carol “Nos Galan (New Year’s Eve)” from which Deck The Halls adopted its famous melody and iconic “fa la la” repetition. The modern lyrics to the song, however, are not simply an English translation of the original Welsh, but entirely new lyrics penned by musician Thomas Oliphant and originally published in 1866 under the title “Deck The Hall” (singular). The tune spread prolifically in the 18th century thanks, in no small part, to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who used it in a piano and violin concerto.

In 1994, the Red Hot Chili Peppers jokingly released what is possibly the most… “interesting” version of the carol as a very rare 7″ promo single to radio stations. It included the band’s 1989 single “Knock Me Down” as its b-side.

Be it Boxcar Willie, Red Hot Chili Peppers, or a more traditional version, we hope you enjoy this Christmas classic and look forward to sharing more with you over the next few days. Peace and joy, my friends.

Karaoke Christmas Bundle Spotlight: “We Three Kings”

We Three Kings

With only eight days left before Christmas, Karaoke Cloud invites you to join us as we continue our series on some of the most beloved Christmas songs and carols of all time. Today’s choice; “We Three Kings.”

Originating sometime in the mid to late-1850’s (1857 being the most agreed-upon year), We Three Kings was written and composed by Reverend John Henry Hopkins Jr., a deacon in the Episcopal Church who was later ordained as a priest in 1872. The hymn was first featured in a holiday pageant organized by Reverend Hopkins in 1857, however, it did not appear in print until 1863 when it was included in Hopkins’ Carols, Hymns and Songs.

Known alternately by the titles “We Three Kings of Orient Are,” or “The Quest of the Magi,” the song tells the tale of three “wise men” who travel from a distant land in order to find and pay homage to the Christ Child shortly after his birth. Though the actual details of the journey itself are widely disputed (see here for an interesting, more esoteric twist on the traditional story), the tale itself has become a major part of Christmas tradition and is celebrated by believers world-wide.

We hope you enjoy singing this classic tune. Remember that you can download this and many other Christmas carols and hymns at karokecloud.com. You can also sing, record, and share your own renditions of all these songs with our free Sing-N-Share app for all Android and Apple devices.

We hope to see you all back with us again next time for more background on some of your favorite Christmas music and a bit of Christmas cheer! See you soon.
