We’re highlighting a few of our favorite Christmas songs of all time, each of which is included in our Christmas 2013 Party Pack with 15 great holiday tunes for less than a buck each on Karaoke Cloud.
Today’s classic is “Do You Hear What I Hear”, a personal favorite that never fails to tickle the feels until chills commence to do the spine-dance, although I seem to remember a long-ago-and-far-away Christmas pageant where I completely messed this one up. Apparently the trauma quickly faded, perhaps as a result of the positive conditioning brought on by the candy and gifts that followed.
The kicker? The song was written for Christmas 1962 as a plea for peace during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The writers, Noel Regney and Gloria Shayne, later said they couldn’t perform the song in its entirety due to the deep emotions they felt. After Bing Crosby released his version less than a year later, the song was a smash hit, and has since been recorded by hundreds of artists.
