Want to spark a bit of idol worship? Just say the name “Ozzy Osbourne” around any true heavy metal fan and mission accomplished. Now, some Ozzy fans are taking on a mission of their own; get the legendary “Prince of Darkness” knighted!

According to WebProNews, a petition started by superfan Helen Maidiotis to have the former (and once again) Black Sabbath frontman knighted by Queen Elizabeth II has already received more 10,000 signatures on Causes.com, double the expected goal of 5,000. A new goal of 20,000 has now been set.

Maidiotis has even created a Facebook page, “The Knighthood of Ozz,” backed both by Ozzy’s daughter, Kelly Osbourne, and his former guitarist, Bernie Torme.

On her website, Maidiotis states, “I am petitioning for Ozzy Osbourne, frontman for Black Sabbath to receive a Knighthood after over 40 years of service to the music industry. Birmingham born John Michael Osbourne, has been entertaining and inspiring a great many throughout his life, he has been a huge success world wide with many successful albums with both Black Sabbath as well as in his solo career. Now in his mid 60′s, I believe the time has come for him to receive a Knighthood. Please consider Mr Osbourne for this honour as it is well deserved and long over due.”

Only time will tell if the Crown will honor this petition, but regardless of the outcome Ozzy’s music will always be immortal. Knight or not, Ozzy rules!
