Wednesday, November 12, 2014, the most popular music streaming website YouTube unveiled its new upgrade “Music Key” that will allow customers to pay $8 a month for extra features such as higher audio quality and removing advertisements.
This new upgrade comes at a controversial time in the music industry concerning how free music is drastically affecting music sales. YouTube is hoping to get a better reputation by offering the “Music Key” feature so that it can start paying out royalties to artists.
There are still many skeptics whether or not this new feature will actually work because the number of people who will actually sign up is uncertain. However, most agree that it is a step in the right direction!
