Beyonce gorgeous in her latest selfie

Bey-RoseQueen “B” is at it again! All the gossip and rumors about Beyonce’s marriage, photoshopped pictures, and possible new pregnancy haven’t seemed to phase her one bit…. Over the weekend Beyonce posted a picture on her personal Instagram account with seemingly no makeup on her face and wearing nothing but a rose crown on her head! This is the second time this year that Beyonce has posted a “no makeup selfie”. Could she be responding to all the backlash she has been getting for her possibly photoshopping other pictures on Instagram? The reasons don’t seem to be quite clear!

However, Beyonce does look simply beautiful in her selfie with no makeup on. The pop star seems to still be at the top of her game at the age of 33!

What do you guys think? Does “Queen B” still have the same appeal as she did in 2003 when she released the single “Dangerously in Love” ? Beyonce released the single just a year after departing from the famous girl- group “Destiny’s Child”. The song propelled Beyonce into a solo star as it became a worldwide hit! Doing some karaoke to “Dangerously in Love” is SURE to turn up your Monday!

Heeeeeeere’s Jonny! The scoop on Play a Tab’s front-man.

JS on Set

With DigiTrax Entertainment’s Play a Tab guitar learning system about to hit the market, we feel there’s no time like the present to get to know the face of Play a Tab, musical prodigy and entrepreneur Jonathan (Jonny) Sexton.

There is no more important aspect of an instructional program than the person chosen to pass on the information itself. When DigiTrax Entertainment began the development process for its upcoming Play a Tab guitar instructional system there was no doubt that Jonathan Sexton would be their number one guy.

PaT-teaser-2

Born and raised in the small town of Seymour, Tennessee, Jonathan has been playing guitar since the age of fifteen. Though destined for a career in music, Jonny took some time before plunging head-first into the industry to pursue another heart-felt dream, that of an educator. Graduating from the University of Tennessee, Jonny spent his next four years as a kindergarten teacher before an opportunity in Nashville provided the chance he needed to chase after his first love — music.

Now the front-man for his own band, Jonathan Sexton and the Big Love Choir, Jonny has also made a big name for himself in the music industry as an entrepreneur with the development of his own music management software app, Artist Growth. This revolutionary app won the 2012 MTV Music Award for “Best Music App” and is currently being used by industry leaders such as Vector Management, BMI, and Spalding Entertainment Group.

JS and Big Love Choir

With credentials like these is it any wonder why DigiTrax chose Jonathan as the face of their new Play a Tab system? Aspiring musicians of all ages will be able to learn quickly and easily as Jonathan takes them step by step through all the basics such as how to hold a pick, proper hand placement, and strumming. He guides users effortlessly through how to play the basic chords giving students the ability to play hundreds of songs which are included in the system.

Play a Tab will be available soon so if you’ve always wanted to learn how to play guitar, here’s your chance!

Karaoke Mailbag – About that No-Fly List…

Fence

A professional karaoke jockey wrote us to ask about the No-Fly List of songwriters who don’t allow their tunes to be reproduced as karaoke:

How does it work when some of these people are on collections already purchased and in my library? Many of those big names are on Top Tunes and Sound Choice cdg’s. Was it legal at one point and then they changed their minds? Are previously purchased cdg’s grandfathered?

Yes, songwriters move onto and off of the No-Fly List occasionally. For instance, Adele recently rescinded her allowance for karaoke after much product was already released to the market and moved on the list. Another major songwriter is about to move off the list (can’t say who or when yet). There are some songwriters who are okay to karaoke with one publisher, but who subsequently moved to a different publisher that doesn’t allow it, and vice versa.

Our legal team is of the opinion that if the songs were licensed at the time you purchased the songs, you should be okay (bear in mind this is an opinion and not established law or precedent). This can be very problematic in practice, however – how can you know that the song was licensed at the time of purchase, since no karaoke company is in the regular habit of disclosing their licensing deals?

The only sure way we know of to be completely clean is to not play any of the songwriters on the list. It is our hope over time to encourage as many songwriters as we can to remove their names from the list, through strong revenue growth that demonstrates to the songwriters that karaoke is no longer the “wild, wild west”. It’s the only way we can see to accommodate your singers, the songwriters, the KJs and the karaoke companies.

Karaoke Roulette as an Art Form? New York exhibit says yes.

Skaryoke Exhibit Photo

Long-time karaoke enthusiast know of a wonderful game, sometimes called “karaoke roulette” or “kamikaze karaoke”, that puts the singer onstage with no idea what song is about to play. Often done as a lark between friends, a KJ-sponsored show segment, or even a contest, it’s a great way for folks to face the terrifying prospect of looking a little bit foolish, and being okay with it.

Dan Kois, a senior editor at Slate, was asked to curate at exhibition at a New York art gallery in Tribeca. His contribution, titled “SCARYOKE!!!” and based on karaoke roulette, opens today and runs through December 21. Read about his inspiration for the exhibit, and reasons why we should all try karaoke roulette at least once here.

You can check out the playlist of the kamikaze songs here. If you can’t make it to New York before Christmas to try it yourself, then we dare you to sing this song right now, no matter where you are!

China Communist Party members caught enjoying – gasp! – karaoke

China Karaoke

The Telegraph in the UK is reporting that Chinese citizens are appalled to discover their own Communist Party officials have been letting down their hair after 8 pm to have a bit of alcohol and – the horrah – sing a karaoke tune or two.

The Telegraph reports these comments from the People:

“Wow, a KTV inside a party school,” sniggered one user of the Weibo microblog. “Why not open a foot massage place [too]?’  “Officials can play while they study,” wrote another. “How convenient!”

Now, we here at Karaoke Cloud always advocate taking care of family and business before fun. We encourage safe and harmless ways of controlling stress, of which karaoke ranks near the top. China’s great philosophers understood one must strike a balance between work and play.

So we have some advice for those party officials – open up the karaoke studio to everyone in the community to share in the fun when all the work’s done. You might find it helps bring you closer together to achieve your goals.

Forget About Dre? No way, says karaoke ace!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

In a market saturated by modern-day hip hop and performers like Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, and Kanye West, it can be all too easy to forget about the innovators who are largely responsible for the success of today’s artists.

Grammy winner Dr. Dre is one such innovator. Best known for his triple-platinum album “The Chronic,” (considered by many to be one of the greatest rap/Hip-Hop albums ever produced ) Dre was also instrumental in the careers of several other iconic artists, including Snoop Dogg and Eminem.

At least one fan refuses to forget this fact. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Mr. Vincent Marcus! This fresh young talent pays homage to both the legendary Dr. Dre and arguably his most famous progeny Eminem with this spot-on karaoke rendition of the appropriately-titled 2001 hit “Forgot About Dre.” (NSFW)

With his smooth transitions and impressive flow style, this young man could easily have a career in the music industry. Dre, if you’re out there, Mr. Marcus may be just what the “Dr.” ordered.
