A lot of questions will be answered in August at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. How many Moonmen will Beyoncé win? Who will be the next superstar to get all butthurt? Will Jay Z and Solange square off for another elevator kickboxing match afterwards? We’ll find out on August 24 at 9 p.m. (EST) as the ceremony airs live from The Forum in Inglewood, California.

In the meantime, we get to take a look at the list of nominees more than a month ahead of time. Beyoncé leads the way (not unexpectedly) with a whopping eight nominations, including video of the year for her collaboration with husband Jay Z, “Drunk In Love.” Close behind her are Eminem and Iggy Azalea with seven nods each.

Pharrell Williams is also sitting pretty with multiple nominations for his phenomenally popular song “Happy.” He’ll have some stiff competition in the video of the year category, however, going up against juggernauts such as Miley Cyrus (“Wrecking Ball“), Iggy Azalea (“Fancy“), Sia (“Chandelier“), and the aforementioned Beyoncé (“Drunk In Love”).

Pharrell is also up for the best male video award, going head-to-head not only with the likes of Eminem and John Legend, but also with… himself! Both “Happy” and “Sing,” his video collaboration with Ed Sheeran, are nominated in the category so it’s entirely possible that Williams could both win and lose at the same time. Something tells me he wouldn’t be too crushed, though.

Ed Sheeran’s Harrowing Karaoke Experience

We all know them, people who say you didn’t really have a good time unless the cops were involved. But what about doctors and nurses? Was it still a good time if you had to go to the ER? Well, Ed Sheeran has given us his view on the subject.

The singer’s second album, X, was released just yesterday. In celebration, Sheeran performed for a few hundred lucky fans at an iHeartRadio Album Release Party in Burbank, California, where he shared some personal anecdotes with host Mario Lopez. One of those tidbits involved a trip to a karaoke bar in Nashville where his exuberance led to a short hospital visit with a friend.

Sheeran told the crowd how he’d been drinking and singing the night away when he accidentally sliced open one of his hands while “playing drums with beer bottles.” Hmm… I mean, you would, wouldn’t you?

Apparently, it was a pretty bad cut as he told the crowd that the white shoes he had been wearing that night turned brown thanks to a rather profuse amount of blood. Thankfully, fellow singer, and apparent knight in shining armor, Gavin DeGraw happened to be there as well.

Sheeran and DeGraw had been taking turns singing each other’s songs, karaoke-style. After seeing Ed’s hand, Gavin stated, “Man, I’ve gotta get you to the hospital!”

According to Ed, Gavin put Sheeran in the backseat of his car and drove him to a local hospital to get stitches. As if that wasn’t enough, DeGraw then took Sheeran out for a burger and then drove the stitched-up singer home. All of that and the two had just met for the first time that very night! Now that is a friend for life!

Beatles Mania Revisited: Paul and Ringo together again!

Beatles fans, rejoice! 50 years to the day that the mop-headed icons were first introduced to American TV audiences, Ringo Starr and Sir Paul McCartney reunite to celebrate that vaunted night.

Last night (Sunday, Feb. 9th), the two remaining Beatles teamed up with other industry icons and current superstars and treated fans to a 2 1/2 hour spectacular commemorating their appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964. Performances from the likes of Katy Perry, Keith Urban, and Stevie Wonder paid tribute to the “Fab Four” as Hollywood stars and Joe Schmoes alike looked on from the audience.

A-listers such as Kate Beckinsale, Tom Hanks, and Johnny Depp were in attendance as Maroon 5 performed their version of “Ticket To Ride.” Other performances included Ed Sheeran playing guitar and singing “In My Life,” Stevie Wonder on both the piano and harmonica as he performed “a little more funky” version of “We Can Work It Out,” and Katy Perry belting out her rendition of “Yesterday.” In one of my favorite moments, Alicia Keys and John Legend gave a masterful performance of “Let It Be,” earning a standing ovation from all in attendance.

While there were many other outstanding performances and tributes from stars such as John Mayer, Pharrell Williams, and Imagine Dragons, the conclusion of the festivities was, by far, the most anticipated and exciting part of the night as the former Beatles themselves took center stage! Ringo went first, the 73-year-old enthralling the audience as he performed the song “Boys” with the legendary Peter Frampton on guitar and finished up in his rightful place, on the throne behind the drums. The crowd then happily joined in, clapping and singing along as he performed “Yellow Submarine.”

Not to be outdone, the 71-year-old McCartney took the stage and performed 2 songs of his own, “Birthday” and “Get Back.” Next, with the backing of an orchestra, Sir Paul began singing the beloved “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” then came the reunion as Ringo joined Paul on stage (introduced, of course, as Billy Shears!) to finish out the song. The duo then teamed up to perform “With A Little Help From My Friends” and “Hey, Jude.”

What a night it was for Beatles fans and music lovers of all kinds. You can pay your own tribute to the band that changed American pop-culture forever with our free Sing-N-Share app! Check it out on both the Apple App Store and Google Play today!
