One of the biggest music festivals of the year starts in two days. Lollapalooza 2014 will rock the city of Chicago August 1-3 with some of the biggest names in the music industry. Bands and artists such as CHVRCHES, Arctic Monkeys, Eminem, Outkast, and Lorde are sure to thrill the thousands who will gather in Chicago’s Grant Park, rain or shine, but you can enjoy the performances from the comfort of your own home.

Let’s face it, not all of us have the time, money, or leeway with our bosses needed to just pick up and fly to Chicago for a 3-day weekend (plus Monday for some much needed recuperation). No problem! Many of this year’s performances will be streaming live on Redbull.tv. Maybe watching from home isn’t the same as being there in person to drink in the atmosphere and positive vibes, but it’s a close second for those who don’t want to miss their favorite artists performing live.

You can see the full schedule here or go straight to Redbull.tv and set up reminders so that you don’t miss a minute of the action from your favorite performers.

Here Are The 2014 VMA Nominees! And, of course, Beyonce leads the pack.

A lot of questions will be answered in August at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. How many Moonmen will Beyoncé win? Who will be the next superstar to get all butthurt? Will Jay Z and Solange square off for another elevator kickboxing match afterwards? We’ll find out on August 24 at 9 p.m. (EST) as the ceremony airs live from The Forum in Inglewood, California.

In the meantime, we get to take a look at the list of nominees more than a month ahead of time. Beyoncé leads the way (not unexpectedly) with a whopping eight nominations, including video of the year for her collaboration with husband Jay Z, “Drunk In Love.” Close behind her are Eminem and Iggy Azalea with seven nods each.

Pharrell Williams is also sitting pretty with multiple nominations for his phenomenally popular song “Happy.” He’ll have some stiff competition in the video of the year category, however, going up against juggernauts such as Miley Cyrus (“Wrecking Ball“), Iggy Azalea (“Fancy“), Sia (“Chandelier“), and the aforementioned Beyoncé (“Drunk In Love”).

Pharrell is also up for the best male video award, going head-to-head not only with the likes of Eminem and John Legend, but also with… himself! Both “Happy” and “Sing,” his video collaboration with Ed Sheeran, are nominated in the category so it’s entirely possible that Williams could both win and lose at the same time. Something tells me he wouldn’t be too crushed, though.

Will Drake’s Butthurt Ever End? The rapper disses Macklemore at the ESPY Awards

Feuds in the music industry are certainly nothing new. Eminem and his mom, Pearl Jam and Ticketmaster, Jay Z and Solange… all of these extremely public disputes have one thing in common; they usually stem from some deep seeded personal or professional issue. Drake‘s recent issues with Grammy winner Macklemore, however, seem to be rooted in nothing more than jealousy and an inability to just let things go.

He further proved this assumption by taking yet another shot at his perceived foe while hosting last night’s ESPY Awards on ESPN. As he performed an original (and admittedly entertaining) song titled “Honorable Mentions/Side Pieces,” Drake had a picture of Macklemore holding his newly won Grammys posted on the screen behind him as he belted out the lyrics “Real talent doesn’t always win championships, like real music doesn’t always win Grammys.” Classy.

Apparently, Drake still feels slighted after losing to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis at the 2014 Annual Grammy Awards, at which the pair dominated the rap category by picking up awards for Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Album. After the awards, Drake did an interview with Rolling Stone in which he stated that he felt “robbed” by the duo and slighted personally because he didn’t get a text from Macklemore like Kendrick Lamar did. Really, dude?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems to me that “real talent” doesn’t need validation from other artists or awards organizations. Nor do “real artists” feel the need to belittle or begrudge others for their success. And here’s the thing; Drake is talented! Very talented. So why waste so much energy on such a pointless grudge? I guarantee Macklemore isn’t losing any sleep over it. Just my opinion.

A Mother’s Day Miracle: Eminem buries the hatchet with his mom in new video

Throughout his 18-year career, Eminem (a.k.a., Marshall Mathers) has never shied away from expressing exactly how he feels in his lyrics. From his personal battles with substance abuse to his disdain for other artists, Slim Shady has held nothing back, including his animosity towards his own mother.

In one of the most famous feuds in music history, Eminem regularly embedded hateful messages about his mother, Debbie Mathers, in his songs. Ranging from her alleged drug use to the mistreatment of both him and his younger brother, Eminem put it all out there for the public to hear. Making matters worse, Ms. Mathers sued her son in a high-profile defamation case in 2001, which was eventually settled out of court.

This volatile feud may finally be coming to an end, however, as Eminem has dropped a new video apologizing to his mom for the hurtful things he said about her in his previous songs. Entitled “Headlights,” the song was included on his 2013 studio album The Marshall Mather LP 2, but the video for the single hit just in time for Mother’s Day, 2014.

Jay Z For President! New chart shows that rap & hip-hop rule the nation.

2014-02-27-fav_artist_map4

Everyone has a favorite artist or band. Want to know how your choice stacks up nationally? Well, here you go. Paul Lamere of the Huffington Post has released a map showing the most popular artists in the US, state-by-state.

After looking at the map for no more than 2 seconds one thing is easily apparent; rap rules the nation. Rock and roll has taken a backseat to rap and hip-hop as artists like Jay Z and Drake lead the musical coup d’état.

This was a landslide by any definition of the term! Rap/hip-hop decimated all other genres by taking forty-four of the fifty states. Jay Z, voted one of the two most powerful people in the music industry by Billboard, proved his staying power by taking a whopping 22 states all by himself. Other popular hip-hop artists were Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (11 states), Drake (8 states), and Eminem (3 states).

It wasn’t a total no-hitter for rap, however, as the Grammy Award winning dance/electronic duo Daft Punk took four states. Fellow Grammy winners Lorde and Imagine Dragons each eked out spots taking a state a piece.

So what do you think? Is this chart accurate? What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below, and be sure to check out KaraokeOnVEVO and Sing-N-Share for more of your favorite artists.

Bruno Mars, Pirate King?

Wireless Festival 2011 - Day 1

Okay… maybe not exactly. Well, at least not in the way you’re probably thinking. Our inside sources have recently confirmed that the Grammy Award winner does not, in fact, wear an eye patch, have a peg-leg, or tote around a beloved parrot. Nor, to our knowledge, does he engage in any pillaging-like activities. According to the data analysis firm Musicmetric, however, Mars was the most pirated artist of 2013 with his songs garnering nearly 5.8 million illegal downloads!

This astonishing number places Bruno at the top of the list, edging out Rihanna, who’s music was hit 5.4 million times in 2013. Rounding out the top five are Daft Punk (4.2 million), Justin Timberlake (3.9 million), and Flo Rida (3.5 million). Honorable mentions, so to speak, are Kanye West, Eminem, Jay Z, Drake and Pitbull, all of whom also earned high illegal download numbers.

On an interesting side-note, Musicmetric also previously reported that Beyoncé’s newest self-titled album was illegally downloaded nearly 240,000 times in it’s first week alone! Almost a quarter of a million pirated hits in a week?! That’s a lot of booty… even for Beyoncé!

The Rundown! Karaoke Could’s Year in Review

With less than 48 hours before we begin yet another amazing year, we’re feeling a little melancholy. Okay, maybe not, but we still want to talk about the good stuff that happened this year in the world of karaoke. So sit back, relax, and let’s take a short trip down memory lane as we look at some of Karaoke Cloud‘s best of 2013… as I see it, at least.

Karaoke Rescue Comes From Boyz II Men: I love to watch people’s reactions when celebrities make surprise appearances. This may have been a car commercial, but when Boyz II Men shows up to help a guy sing to his girlfriend in a karaoke club… well, that’s just awesome!

Ten people you meet at karaokeI only began working with DigiTrax/Karaoke Cloud in October of this year, but going back and reading previous blogs I have to say that this is definitely one of my favorites from 2013. Why? Because it’s so true! Everyone from the “Diva” to the “Newbie,” they exist! And if you’ve spent more than an hour in a karaoke club there’s a very good chance you’ve had the, um… pleasure of meeting them.

“They’re Heeeeere…” Sing-N-Share hits Google Play with thousands of free tracks from Karaoke Cloud: This was a very recent post, but from a business aspect it was also one of our biggest. The Sing-N-Share app is one of DigiTrax Entertainment’s crown jewels and we are extremely proud of everyone who came together to make it a reality! Very special shout outs to the geniuses at Deansoft for developing the tech and our friends at LiveRail for making the app free to everyone through their premium mobile video ads. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication and to you, our loyal friends and readers, for making Sing-N-Share a success!

Forget About Dre? No way, says karaoke ace!I’m not trying to toot my own horn, but this was the very first blog I wrote for Karaoke Cloud. This kid (Vincent Marcus) grabbed my attention with his amazing ability to flow and imitate two of my favorite rap artists of all time, Dr. Dre and Eminem. So, in all honesty it’s Vincent’s horn that’s being tooted here, not mine. 🙂

Squared-away Karaoke CEO Started Out PunkFor those of you who haven’t had the chance to read it yet, this article deals with our very own CEO and visionary, Joseph Vangieri! Karaoke Cloud/DigiTrax Entertainment owes all of its success to Joe for his pioneering spirit and business savvy, but he also happens to be a pretty interesting guy. From punk rocker to CEO? That’s pretty damn cool.

Music Genius Mark Radice Joins DigiTrax EntertainmentWe were absolutely ecstatic when Mark Radice agreed to join our team at DigiTrax! With his experience and undeniable musical talent, who wouldn’t be! Not only has Mark been responsible for many of the songs heard on the beloved children’s show Sesame Street (not to mention credits with some “small-time” bands/artists like Aerosmith and Gene Simmons), but the fact that he’s been blessed with what is known as “absolute pitch” makes him the perfect person to take the helm in creating pitch-perfect re-creations of hit songs!

KaraokeOnVEVO Surpasses Quarter-Million Mark in 6 MonthsNot too shabby for a “test product.” When we first started KoV (KaraokeOnVEVO) in order to see if there was a demand for free karaoke on social media we had no idea what kind of response we would get. It’s been overwhelming to say the least! When you consider that the amount of views has jumped another 7 million and subscribers by 25 thousand since we posted the blog last month…wow.

“Play a Tab” And Peavey: Avengers Assembled!Another huge coup for us in 2013 was the announcement of a joint-venture between guitar industry giants Peavey and DigiTrax Entertainment regarding our new innovative Play a Tab app! Working hand-in-hand with Peavey is an absolute honor, but to have our guitar-learning software actually packaged with their world-class products makes us almost speechless. Almost.

Peavey-Marvel-Rockmaster-Guitar

My friends, I hope you all had a great 2013 and we wish you the very happiest of new years! We’re looking forward to making even bigger strides in the digital interactive music industry in 2014 and can’t wait to see what our next “year in review” will hold!
