Britney Spears Minus Auto-Tune = Oh… Oh My.

Pop-music has changed drastically over the last decade or so. Sometimes it sees as though talent is no longer a requirement to become a superstar, and often even those who do possess talent still rely on technology to make their music sound unique. So what happens when an unedited version of a song which was meant to be tweaked with Auto-Tune leaks? Unfortunately, you’re about to find out.

On July 2, an un-edited version of Britney Spears‘ hit song “Alien” was leaked to the public… and it ain’t pretty. Warning: what you are about to hear may not be suitable for human consumption.

Spears’ track producer William Orbit claims that the, um… “performance” was part of a warm-up set and was never intended as a final take. “I’d like to affirm that ANY singer when first at the mic at the start of a long session can make a multitude of vocalisations in order to get warmed up,” Orbit wrote in a statement picked up by the Huffington Post. “Warming up is essential if you’re a pro, as it is with a runner doing stretches, and it takes a while to do properly. I’ve heard all manner of sounds emitted during warm-ups. The point is that it is not supposed to be shared with millions of listeners.”

So what’s your take on this? Is this simply a leaked warm-up routine or was Spears just phoning it in and depending on Auto-Tune to make things sound legit?

Death Can’t Stop The “King Of Pop!”

MJ is unstoppable! (photo: thrilltheworldnyc.com)

In June of 2009 the world lost arguably the most popular and beloved pop-music artist of all time… or so we thought. Apparently, death ain’t got $@%# on Michael Jackson or the proliferation of true talent as the “King of Pop” prepares to release his second full album from beyond the grave!

Xscape is due for release on May 13, 2014 and includes eight previously unreleased tracks for which Michael had completed vocals before his death. In a collaboration between top producers such as Timberland and Rodney Jerkins, the tracks have been “contemporized” and prepared for release in the modern market. But why wait?! Check out MJ’s highly anticipated collaboration with Justin Timberlake, “Love Never Felt So Good,” right here!

Jackson accomplished a lot of firsts in his career. He was the first black artist ever to have a music video aired on MTV, the first person to sell more than a million downloads in a single week, and the first to surpass 1 billion (yes, billion) online video views. While he may not be the first artist to release albums posthumously, could he be the first to become even more popular after his death?

According to a Huffington Post article from 2013, indications may lean in that direction. His name is still one of the most popular searched for, beating out the likes of One Direction, Nike, and even Barack Obama. In 2012, three years after his death, he gained 500k Twitter followers. His Youtube channel gets 780,000 views per day.

Say what you will about life after death, Michael Jackson is proving that immortality is much more than just fantasy.

Jay Z For President! New chart shows that rap & hip-hop rule the nation.

2014-02-27-fav_artist_map4

Everyone has a favorite artist or band. Want to know how your choice stacks up nationally? Well, here you go. Paul Lamere of the Huffington Post has released a map showing the most popular artists in the US, state-by-state.

After looking at the map for no more than 2 seconds one thing is easily apparent; rap rules the nation. Rock and roll has taken a backseat to rap and hip-hop as artists like Jay Z and Drake lead the musical coup d’état.

This was a landslide by any definition of the term! Rap/hip-hop decimated all other genres by taking forty-four of the fifty states. Jay Z, voted one of the two most powerful people in the music industry by Billboard, proved his staying power by taking a whopping 22 states all by himself. Other popular hip-hop artists were Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (11 states), Drake (8 states), and Eminem (3 states).

It wasn’t a total no-hitter for rap, however, as the Grammy Award winning dance/electronic duo Daft Punk took four states. Fellow Grammy winners Lorde and Imagine Dragons each eked out spots taking a state a piece.

So what do you think? Is this chart accurate? What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below, and be sure to check out KaraokeOnVEVO and Sing-N-Share for more of your favorite artists.
