Taylor Swift captures top spot on Billboard’s 2014 Money Makers list

Billboard has announced their annual Money Makers list and this year Taylor Swift took it to the bank with a $39 million outing. No surprise there with the meteoric success of her newest studio album, “Red,” and the fact that she earned an estimated $30M for six months worth of touring. Check out who took the other top spots.

10. Fleetwood Mac — The classic rock band pulled in an estimated $19 million with the release of their first new content in over ten years and a tour which earned the group a whopping $17M over just 34 shows.

9. Pink — With an album (“The Truth About Love”) which helped the singer earn over 8M digital downloads and an international tour that raked in more than $15M in the US leg alone, Pink is sitting pretty in 2014 with a $20 million price tag.

8. Luke Bryan — $22 million is certainly nothing to sneeze at! With more than 2.7M album sales, 7.6M digital downloads, a tour that brought in over $15M, and winning the 2013 CMA Entertainer of the Year award, Bryan had a banner year.

7. Maroon 5 — Last year’s impressive comeback by the L.A.-based alternative band with multiple sold-out live performances was impressive enough. Earning $22 million, having four singles make it into the top 20 on Billboard’s Hot 100, and selling more than 7M digital downloads makes it pretty damn amazing.

6. Beyonce — Yeah, like anyone didn’t think she would make the list. With the release of a  surprise self-titled album which has sold more than 1.3M copies since December and a lengthy world tour that alone has earned the singer an estimated $19M, it’s no shock that Queen Bey is in the top ten. A strong outing at $24 million.

Beatles Mania Revisited: Paul and Ringo together again!

article-2555598-1B589AD100000578-108_634x451

Beatles fans, rejoice! 50 years to the day that the mop-headed icons were first introduced to American TV audiences, Ringo Starr and Sir Paul McCartney reunite to celebrate that vaunted night.

Last night (Sunday, Feb. 9th), the two remaining Beatles teamed up with other industry icons and current superstars and treated fans to a 2 1/2 hour spectacular commemorating their appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964. Performances from the likes of Katy Perry, Keith Urban, and Stevie Wonder paid tribute to the “Fab Four” as Hollywood stars and Joe Schmoes alike looked on from the audience.

A-listers such as Kate Beckinsale, Tom Hanks, and Johnny Depp were in attendance as Maroon 5 performed their version of “Ticket To Ride.” Other performances included Ed Sheeran playing guitar and singing “In My Life,” Stevie Wonder on both the piano and harmonica as he performed “a little more funky” version of “We Can Work It Out,” and Katy Perry belting out her rendition of “Yesterday.” In one of my favorite moments, Alicia Keys and John Legend gave a masterful performance of “Let It Be,” earning a standing ovation from all in attendance.

While there were many other outstanding performances and tributes from stars such as John Mayer, Pharrell Williams, and Imagine Dragons, the conclusion of the festivities was, by far, the most anticipated and exciting part of the night as the former Beatles themselves took center stage! Ringo went first, the 73-year-old enthralling the audience as he performed the song “Boys” with the legendary Peter Frampton on guitar and finished up in his rightful place, on the throne behind the drums. The crowd then happily joined in, clapping and singing along as he performed “Yellow Submarine.”

Not to be outdone, the 71-year-old McCartney took the stage and performed 2 songs of his own, “Birthday” and “Get Back.” Next, with the backing of an orchestra, Sir Paul began singing the beloved “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” then came the reunion as Ringo joined Paul on stage (introduced, of course, as Billy Shears!) to finish out the song. The duo then teamed up to perform “With A Little Help From My Friends” and “Hey, Jude.”

What a night it was for Beatles fans and music lovers of all kinds. You can pay your own tribute to the band that changed American pop-culture forever with our free Sing-N-Share app! Check it out on both the Apple App Store and Google Play today!

2014 People’s Choice Awards: And the winners are…

January 8th marked the 40th anniversary of the People’s Choice Awards and what a night it was! Many forms of media and entertainment are honored on this night, but we, of course, want to draw special attention to the music industry aspect. Lots of categories and lots of winners so let’s get started!

One of the biggest winners of the night was Mr. Justin Timberlake. The triple-threat earned three wins in three separate categories — Favorite Album (The 20/20 Experience)Favorite R&B Artist, and Favorite Male Artist.

Katy Perry also earned a lion’s share of awards, doubling up with wins for Favorite Music Video (Roarand Favorite Song (Roar).

Successful comebacks are few and far between, but don’t tell that to the members of Fall Out Boy. Reuniting in 2013 after an extended “hiatus,” the 2000’s punk-pop icons released a new album (Save Rock and Roll) and earned the 2014 People’s Choice Award for Favorite Alternative Band.

Since their formation in 2010, One Direction has been headed in only… well, one direction; up! Continuing their gangbusters-like journey, the British boy band kicked off 2014 with a win in the Favorite Band category, beating out the likes of Maroon 5 and Paramore.

Social media is heralding the resurgence of the independent artist and, in my opinion, it’s a beautiful thing. One duo of said independents is Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. They’ve been blowing up the charts and now they start the new year with a huge win, garnering the award for Favorite Hip-Hop Artist in a category that included industry giants Jay Z, Kanye West, Drake, and Lil Wayne.

There’s almost nothing more to say about Taylor Swift that hasn’t already been said in a blog, news story, or the diary of every 13 year-old girl who dreams of being a singer/song-wirter. I mean, did anyone doubt that she would win this year’s award for Favorite Country Artist? If you did I would strongly advise against taking any trips to Vegas anytime soon.

Ever feel like you’ve accidentally stepped into a time machine? I don’t remember driving off in a DeLorean this morning, but it sure feels like the early 2000’s with artists like Justin Timberlake and Fall Out Boy taking home the honors at this year’s PCA’s. Now, adding to the deja vu, we present the winner of this year’s Favorite Pop Artist award, Britney Spears! After break-downs and some much needed time off she has definitely worked her way back to the top of the pop world.

You know you’re off to a great new year when you edge out artists like Pink, Katy Perry, and Britney Spears. That’s exactly what Demi Lovato did to win this year’s award for Favorite Female Artist.

Congratulations to all of this year’s winners!
