NFL Rookies sing Taylor Swift karaoke with hospital patient

Karaoke Cardinals

A group of rookies looking for playing time with the Arizona Cardinals spent some singing time with a young patient at Phoenix Children’s Hospital this week who was recovering from surgery to remove her appendix. As you can see in the video below, the talented young lady had no problem delivering on the lyrics from Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble”, while the rookies provided accompaniment.

The players included Padric Scott, Jamaal Johnson-Webb, Earl Watford, Dan Giordano and Jonathan Cooper, who weren’t afraid to let their guard down for a good cause. Kudos to all involved.

Electronic Dance Music heroes Daft Punk reveal their go-to karaoke tune. Spoiler alert: it’s one of their own songs (*sniff*).

The Singing Room is a new play in Denver, and the whole two-and-a-half-hours takes place in a karaoke bar. No, I don’t mean that’s where they perform the play, I mean, that’s the setting. Humanities Center Fellow at Standford University, Chloe Veltman gives us the lowdown.

Speaking of Denver, if you’re in the Mile High City and looking for a place to kick out the karaoke jams, here’s a light review of where-and-when from Westword.

DigiTrax turns back time with retro karaoke releases

Clock

DigiTrax Karaoke, makers of Karaoke Cloud, were the first to bring bulk digital karaoke libraries to the masses, allowing anyone to build an instant karaoke library complete enough to start hosting their own parties and shows, and to snag the whole thing digitally.

Lately, our ears have been bent pretty severely by folks who want to catch up with the hottest hits over the past three years, and be able to get bulk purchasing power.

So we’re happy to say there are six new 50-song packs in the DigiTrax stable as of this morning. We’ve put together the hottest country and pop hits from the past three years and released them all on easy-to-get 50-song download packs.

You can get all the details right here.

Karaoke Rescue comes from Boyz II Men

When Cory wanted to show his lady Cassandra a very special night during a trip to LA, he planned to serenade her at a karaoke hotspot.

Unfortunately, Cory had never performed karaoke before. On the upside, he got a little help.

And if you want to sing that song to your special someone, you can sing the same version Cory did, courtesy of KaraokeOnVEVO.

Sing karaoke, earn leniency

Or at least, that’s what the chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus seems to think. Representative Marcia Fudge, a Democrat from Ohio, has asked the federal judge weighing the sentencing of former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., who has pleaded guilty to spending campaign funds on appliances, televisions and jewelry, to consider Jackson’s karaoke skills as part of his sentencing deliberations.

“Jesse was the highlight of our karaoke nights and always made everyone feel like an integral part of, and not apart from, various activities. He made us realize that we could still have fun, while addressing important national issues.” – Rep Marcia Fudge

Jackson could be sentenced for up to four years in prison.

Karaoke – from outer space to your local gas pump

Space Station

Yes, that’s a real astronaut strumming a guitar and singing David Bowie’s classic “Space Oddity” aboard the International Space Station. NASA says it’s the first music video made in space (at least by humans), and is performed by Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, who’s performed before with an all-astronaut band, as well as joining The Chieftains and two other astronauts on a version of “Moondance” last February.

Here’s the video, which the official David Bowie Facebook page called “possibly the most poignant version of the song ever created.”

Meanwhile, back on earth, The Smoking Gun has uncovered some facts it thinks casts doubt on whether the latest viral karaoke video, of two “unsuspecting” customers at a Costco gas pump playing it up for a segment of Jay Leno’s “Pumpcast News”, might have been staged.

Regardless, it was a great segment – if you haven’t seen it yet, here ya go:

Karaoke Summit 2013 – Getting On The Digital Runway

Jet Airplane Landing at Sunset

We are a little more than a month away from the Music City Karaoke Summit 2013, to be held June 20 at the Hilton Nashville Downtown, and the list of topics is already up at the official site. Here’s a quick look:

  • State Of The Cloud Address
  • Sync Licensing – Your song isn’t on karaoke
  • Sync Rights In A Global Economy
  • Consumer Demands in the Karaoke Trenches
  • Flaming Hoops – Clearing A Song For Karaoke
  • Piracy Interdiction Efforts in the US
  • Structuring Licensing Contracts
  • Software Tools for Accurate Reporting
  • Future Tech – Where The Cloud Is Going

If you were plugged into last year’s summit, you already know that it was the first time in history that the movers and shakers from the US karaoke industry came together in one room.

In spite of the potentially adversarial nature of the assembly, it turned out that everyone in attendance acknowledged the threats facing the industry and pledged to work together to try and mitigate them. They even felt strongly enough to sign their names to the pledge.

A quick glance at the topic list would seem to indicate plans to really get down to the nitty-gritty this year. Licensing and piracy are always hotly-debated topics, and the digital forecast promises to be a highlight to finish things with a bang. Lets hope everyone leaves with a smile on their face like they did last year.
