Concert Mishaps

A lot can go wrong during a concert and often times do.  Katy Perry is no stranger to malfunctions at her shows (such as walking off the stage). Most recently, Perry was stuck flying high over the audience at her concert in Nashville, TN. She was stuck on planet Saturn at her show, at least it wasn’t Uranus (ha! get it?).

“I’m really stuck,” she told concert attendees. “This is the first time that I’ve been stuck in space. I know I’m kind of a space cadet, but actually, this thing is being stuck right now.”

 

 

Another recent concert mishap happened to Marilyn Manson. Mr.Manson was minding his own business performing at the Hammerstein Ballroom when all of a sudden the props of two large guns held together with scaffolding fell, crushing him. He was rushed to the hospital were Ms. Tolles (his publicist) did not detail the nature or severity of Mr. Manson’s injuries or offer specifics about how they happened but did make a statement that said, “Manson hopes to return to the stage soon.”

Those are just two of the many concert mishaps that have happened over the years. With that said, performs beware.

Diamond Rings & Old Barstools: A Family Affair

Tim McGraw recently came out with his fourth consecutive single, titled “Diamond Rings & Old Barstools”. The song features a duet with small town singer/songwriter Catherine Dunn. Many believe that this is the best releases in a number of years, enjoying the creative, modern new hit. McGraw and Dunn’s voices harmonize and play extremely well off of one another– which could be because they are actually cousins!

The song is simple in structure, letting Dunn’s voice ring out crystal-clear. Using diamond rings and old barstools as metaphors for the opposing lifestyles of traveling musicians (or just drunks) and married life, it mourns a relationship the narrator knew would never last, but was willing so hard for it to.

When listening to country music, I always enjoy a creative duet. I believe that the opposing sounds bring out the beauty in them, and think that this song does a great job in doing so.The song is already rising in the charts, and it could eventually be a top hit!

Sparks Ignite as Gomez and Zedd collaborate on “I Want You To Know”

Recently, Russian-German electronic music DJ and producer Anton Zaslavski, professionally known as Zedd, collaborated with his current girlfriend Selena Gomez to produce “I Want You To Know,” an ultimate hit. This is Zedd’s first single to be released since his debut album “Clarity,” which was released in 2012.

“I Want You to Know” combines the melodic part of his smash hit “Clarity“, using the strength of his latest global hit “Break Free” along Ariana Grande. The result entailed feel-good vibes, jubilant energy, and Gomez’s bubbly vocals. The track landed in the top 20 pop songs mere weeks after it was released, and the music video only made it more popular.

During an interview with New Zealand’s radio show The Edge Afternoons, the 22-year-old singer confirmed that she did date the DJ, 25, earlier this year. They never publicly declared the status of their relationship, but Gomez said, “they definitely had a thing.”

The relationship has since fizzled out, but the pair still seems to be on good terms. Nevertheless, they created an upbeat, club-infused track, which has gotten massive amount of publicity since the release.

Will ‘Move On’ help Dunn move up?

Clare Dunn released her first major-label single ‘Move On’ last week, and is hoping that her influence on the completion of the song will make it a hit. Dunn calls the song a page out of her life. “Move On was just something I was going through. I was friends with his guy. I’m very shy when it comes to guys, a lot of the time. The way you’ll know if I really like someone is if I get shy. I was struggling with that, and he was kind of shy, too.” The video premiered at USA TODAY, and Dunn wowed fans and listeners alike with her music that has been governed by her Colorado roots.

These lines in the chorus summed up the song best:

You’re on the sidelines wasting time when you could be winning with me
All them days are over, all them red lights are green
So move on, move on, move on
Make your move on me

In its first week out, Move On was the second most-added song at country radio, barely behind the new one from Miranda Lambert, Smokin’ and Drinkin’. “It’s already looking like a hit on The Highway,” says SiriusXM’s director of country programming, John Marks. “Hopefully, terrestrial radio will give this song and artist a chance. If so, more country music fans will be able to see for themselves why she deserves a prominent place in country music.”

Dunn stands out as a new artist, as she has been involved in every aspect of her new single’s debut. She has dreamed of becoming a singer since a young age, and got the chance to hit the big stage while singing backup in Luke Bryan’s 2011 hit Country Girl.

Knoxville’s own Kelsea Ballerini debut single: Love Me Like You Mean It

Kelsea Ballerini passion for music started at a young age, as her father is a country radio programmer so she was constantly being influenced. At age 12, she wrote her first song for her mother, which was the beginning of a long journey ahead. She then moved to Nashville, Tennessee, country music capital of the south, and pursued her musical career from there. A mere two years ago, Kelsea signed a deal with Black River Entertainment and came out with her debut single, “Love Me Like You Mean It.”

On July 4, 2015, “Love Me Like You Mean It” topped the Billboard Country Airplay, making her the 11th woman in history to have a #1 hit and the first since 2006! When asked about her recent hit, Kelsea said, “It’s just a fun, happy, kind of sassy, quirky, song from a confident girl saying, ‘If you’re gonna do this, do it right.'”

Kelsea has been dreaming of a day when everything she envisioned for her future would come true, and it finally has. When she first started writing music, she did it to express her feelings, not meant to be shared with anyone. For her 15th birthday, she got the opportunity to record in a real studio– and the representatives from the studio told her that her dream could easily become a reality. Kelsea said, “Dreams do come true. I’m seeing it first hand. While I do want to do it all, the arena tours and award shows, most of all, I just want to put out good music that matters.”

Billy Joel sticks up for Taylor Swift

Last month, Taylor Swift was surprisingly named “New York’s Tourism Ambassador” after living in New York a little less than one year! Obviously, Swift got an ear full from New Yorkers and harsh critics who do not approve of her getting this honor. However, Billy Joel is helping Taylor “shake it off” by telling USA Today that he welcomes the singer, “You snoots. Let her in. That’s what New York is all about. I say, ‘Welcome.”

Swift just released her new album 1989 with Welcome To New York as the opening track. Billy Joel praises her ability to write songs and inspire people with her music, “She catches a lot of junk, maybe because she’s so popular with young girls,” he continued. “But I like what she’s projecting. I respect what she’s doing.”

Who would have thought Billy Joel would be the one to openly and publicly stand up for Taylor Swift?! We love it!

Robin Thicke and Paula Patton file for divorce

After a 9 month long separation, the couple is calling it quits due to “irreconcilable differences”.

Anyone who has kept up with the couple knows the “Blurred Lines” singer was accused of cheating on the American actress. Robin Thicke has very publicly tried to win Paula back by creating an entire album about his love for her. He has even admitted to E! News that his behavior is the ultimate reason behind their separation, “We’re apart because we just couldn’t be together anymore for a while. There’s a hundred different reasons, there isn’t just one. There’s a long list… I changed, and I got a little too selfish, a little too greedy and little too full of myself”. However, his attempts to regain Patton’s heart have been a complete bust. Thicke too often contradicts his pleads to win Paula back by publicly admitting he is just sort of “winging it”, rather than putting a lot of thought and effort into fixing things. He admitted this to Good Morning America back in July, “I actually have no idea what I’m doing…. I’m just kinda flying by the seat of my pants on this one”.

Additionally, the two also have a 4- year- old son, Julian and will both have joint custody.

As a young adult who grew up with a single mother, I am very proud of Paula Patton’s decision to file for divorce. If Thicke no longer treats her with the same love, respect, and honesty that their relationship was founded upon then she is making the right choice to move on from it. It takes an extremely brave woman to walk away from the love, fame, and fortune that Thicke provided her with. Of course, we hope that they are able to end on good terms and move on to better things!

Robin Thicke’s love life may not be doing so hot at the moment, his music sure is! His single “Blurred Lines”, featuring T.I. and Pharrell, continues to top the charts. Listen to the smash hit now and SING ALONG!

Psy And Snoop Get Drunk And Krunk, But Is It Too Much?

Two years ago a relatively unknown Korean rapper by the name of “Psy” became a world-wide pop-culture phenom and spawned an inescapable international dance craze with the release of his hit song “Gangnam Style.” The song and its comical companion video, which just recently surpassed the 2 billion (that’s right… billion!) viewer mark on YouTube, launched Psy into superstar status almost overnight. And now he’s at it again with his newest internet sensation, “Hangover.”

This time, however, Psy teams up with the legendary (and infamous) Snoop Dogg (aka Snoop Lion) to takes his image in a drastically new direction, that of an overindulgent, alcohol-fueled partygoer enjoying the “perks” of stardom. Or as Lindsay Lohan calls it, “an average Tuesday.” 😉

Published just three days ago (June 8), the video has already garnered more than 38 million views on Psy’s official YouTube channel and is generating a plethora of mixed responses ranging from praise to outright disgust. Then there are those who fall somewhere in the middle. As one commenter put it, “This song is 50% s–t, and 50% amazing!” Lmao. Way to be 100% noncommittal.

Love him or hate him, Psy is back and it doesn’t look like he’s going anywhere anytime soon. Will “Hangover” come anywhere near to the success of “Gangnam Style?” Only time will tell, but my guess is no, if for no other reason than the fact that for all of it’s ridiculousness, there just isn’t anything special about it. Sure, it’s fun and has star power, but I don’t see anything setting it apart from all the other dance songs/videos out there. Just my opinion.

Plus, it’s hard to beat that iconic “horse” dance…

Mad Skillz: Weezer’s drummer catches Frisbee without missing a beat!

Skill. It’s not just about raw talent. To show what you’re really capable of it takes dedication, passion, and total concentration on the task at hand. Well, Weezer‘s Patrick Wilson just proved that he’s the king of concentration.

During a live set in St. Augustine, FL the band was jamming on their hit song “Beverly Hills” when a fan decided it would be the perfect time to play a game of Frisbee. What’s more, this fan apparently decided to play nice and include Wilson in the fun. See for yourself what happened next in the video below.

Yup! Wilson not only catches the Frisbee in mid-flight and transfers it to his mouth, but he does so without missing a beat… literally! As you can clearly hear, the crowd went nuts, as they should.

Anytime you attempt to do your best the pressure to achieve perfection is on, but when you’re performing in front of a live audience, that pressure is multiplied exponentially. Patrick just showed us all how developing your concentration skills and fully committing yourself to your goal can not only carry you through that pressure, but cause you to thrive in the midst of it. Plus, it was pretty damn cool.

Ryan Lewis’ New Role? Troll!

Do you love hip hop? I mean, really love hip hop? Would you recognize your favorite artists on the street? Jay Z, Drake, Macklemore? How about Ryan Lewis; would you recognize him? Well Jimmy Fallon was willing to bet you wouldn’t, and who better to prove it than Ryan Lewis himself!

In a recent piece for NBC’s The Tonight Show, the musician/DJ/producer took to the streets of New York to ask people what they thought about Ryan Lewis. The results? Pretty damn funny.

I especially love the face of the girl in the white shirt! You can practically count down to the moment when she finally puts two and two together. 🙂

Lewis and Macklemore began their friendship and business relationship back in 2006 and have been working together ever since. While his partnership with the popular hip hop star is surely his most lucrative and prominent venture, Lewis has also collaborated with a variety of other artists and even produced his own album titled Instrumentals.
