I’m a huge fan of alternate reality tales. Some of my favorite movies, books, and TV episodes of all time are those based on time travel and “what if” scenarios. It should be no wonder, then, that I find myself infatuated with Postmodern Jukebox, and not just because of the ravishingly beautiful Robyn Adele Anderson.

This unique and extremely talented band specializes in giving us “An Alternate History of Pop Music,” and they pull it off with style and pizazz. While they usually center their performances around the most popular songs of the day, this time around they add their distinctive flavor to Madonna‘s 1989 hit “Like A Prayer.” Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 1940’s!

Give your favorite songs your own personal flare with Sing-N-Share, available for all Android and Apple smart devices.

L.A. Goes Country: New art exhibit honors country music icons

country-and-western-painting-peter-g-dobson

When you think about Los Angeles, what images usually come to mind? Movie stars? Liberal politics? Rap music? If you were to take a poll my guess would be that country music wouldn’t exactly top the list. “Country: Portraits of an American Sound,” a new photo exhibit at the Annenberg Space for Photography may take strides in changing that.

Running from May 31 through September 28, the new exhibit will feature photographs of the most iconic country music performers of all time taken by various photographers, pro and amateur alike.

“Country: Portraits of an American Sound” will be curated by Shannon Perich of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, along with Tim Davis and Michael McCall of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The exhibit promises to showcase legends such as Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, and Merle Haggard.

Also featured will be more contemporary artists such as Taylor Swift and Keith Urban, along with displays of country music albums, posters, instruments, and stage costumes provided by the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. There will also be screenings of a full-length documentary exploring the evolution of country music over the last 80 years.

L.A. may not be the hub of country music, but from May 31 to September 28, it will definitely be a mecca. For those who live seemingly a world away, fear not! The exhibit is expected to tour the country following its stint in Los Angeles.

Mark McGrath — Killer Choice For “Killer Karaoke.”

mark-mcgrath-278x400

TruTV‘s laugh-fest Killer Karaoke is getting a facelift for its second season. While making some changes to the sadistic music-based competition itself, the show is also welcoming a new front man, Sugar Ray lead singer and former Extra host Mark McGrath.

The tatted-up McGrath takes the reins from former Jackass star Steve-O, who fronted the show during its first season. While Killer Karaoke‘s twisted Fear Factor-like venue seemed to be a perfect fit for the irreverent Steve-O, this isn’t exactly McGrath’s first rodeo with a karaoke-style game show, either. He hosted the American version of the show Don’t Forget The Lyrics on Fox in 2010.

If you haven’t had a chance to watch Killer Karaoke then you owe it to yourself to check it out. I mean, karaoke plus snakes, shock therapy, and 500 lb. male strippers? What’s not to love?!

Of course, you can start your own karaoke competition (sans the spiders) with KaraokeOnVEVO or our free Sing-N-Share app for all Apple and Android devices! Then again, what’s the harm in adding a few snakes and tarantulas to liven things up? 🙂 Enjoy!

A Steamy Comeback: Shakira heats things up with Rihanna in provocative new video

272535243_1373066876

Shakira is shaking and gyrating her way back to prominence in the music industry with the help of American Music “Icon” Award winner, Rihanna. The Colombian-born singer and dancer was once on top of the world with what has thus far been the best-selling song of the 21st century, “Hips Don’t Lie,” from her 2005 album “Oral Fixation, Vol. 2.” In 2010 she released the single “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” as the official song of the 2010 World Cup. Selling over 4 million copies world-wide, it is the best-selling and fastest-selling World Cup anthem in history.

Since then, however, the Queen of Hips has been relatively quiet. In 2012 she released the single “Get It Started,” her 3rd collaboration with American hip-hop artist Pitbull. After reaching #64 on the UK charts and only hitting the 89th spot on the Billboard Hot 100 the song quickly fizzled out.

It seems, however, that those quiet days are now in the past. Shakira has teamed up with fellow sexy-siren Rihanna for her newest single, “Can’t Remember To Forget You.” This is the first single off of her forthcoming self-titled album, “Shakira,” due for release later this year.

The steamy video, which features Shakira and Rihanna sharing some tender moments (and cigars) in bed, has already generated more than 71 million views on Youtube only 5 days after its release. The song itself is reminiscent of the new-wave pop style of her previous English-language album, “She Wolf,” which has sold more than 2 million copies world-wide.

Teaming up with Rihanna certainly can’t hurt Shakira’s chances of once more reaching the top. The seven-time Grammy Award winner is one of the best-selling artists of all time with 13 number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 2012 she was ranked as the fourth most powerful celebrity of the year by Forbes and named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by TIME. Add all of this to the fact that she is undeniably sexy and it’s a good bet that Shakira couldn’t have made a better choice of partners than Rihanna.

Rave Reviews Continue For Sing-N-Share!

They say there’s no such thing as bad publicity. I’m not 100% sure I agree with that, but I do know that good publicity is always good! And that’s what Sing-N-Share continues to rake in as more and more bloggers and tech-reviewers weigh in on our new mobile karaoke app.

This latest positive review comes from Faryaal Khan of ilovefreesoftware.com. Mr. Khan gives a glowing review of the app in which he presses home how easy and convenient it is to use in addition to its entertainment value. “The main page of the app has many categories of songs, like: Pop, Country, R&B, Rock. Each category has hundreds of hit songs that you can sing along with this app. You can easily search your favorite song using the alphabetical filter.”

Faryaal goes on to itemize each of the outstanding features of Sing-N-Share, such as “attractive user interface with soft colors, easy to access features, login using Facebook or Twitter accounts,” and, “more than 12,000 songs available.”

While Mr. Khan was thorough in his review, the only thing I can see that was omitted is the fact that Sing-N-Share is available in both Google Play (Android) and the Apple App Store (iOS). “Khhhhaaaaann!!” *in my best William Shatner voice*

Sorry… I couldn’t resist!

We are more than willing to forgive such an oversight, however, when a reviewer ends a piece like so: “Sing-N-Share is a fun app for Android. I feel so lucky to have found this app. All my friends are gonna have a blast in our next party, singing songs with this karaoke app. I absolutely love this app. Try it yourself, it will surely cheer up your mood.”

But don’t just take his word for it! Download Sing-N-Share now at singnshare.com and see for yourself how easy it is to share the fun.

Sing-N-Share Hits The App Store!

Sing-N-Share app icon

Sing-N-Share hit the Google Play store the week before Christmas and that was enough to keep us jacked up into the new year. “Jacked up,” but not satisfied. As excited as we were for Android users to finally get their hands on Sing-N-Share, we immediately turned our attention toward getting the app approved and pushed through on the Apple App Store. That time and energy has payed off as Sing-N-Share is now available for Apple users on iPhone, iPod, and iPad!

For those not 100% sure what Sing-N-Share is all about, it’s a completely free, add-supported (thanks to LiveRail) mobile karaoke app developed by DigiTrax Entertainment and Deansoft which gives you total access to thousands of songs from the Karaoke Cloud catalog with more being added all the time! Sing-N-Share is much more than that, however, as it also allows users to not only sing along with their favorite tracks, but to record their performance and share it with friends and family anywhere in the world by posting it to Facebook or Twitter!

But don’t take my word for it. Check it out for yourself on either Google Play or the Apple App Store right now and share the fun!

“They’re Heeeeere…” Sing-N-Share hits Google Play with thousands of free tracks from Karaoke Cloud!

The wait is over! Sing-N-Share is now available on Google Play for all Android devices and it’s rolling out to rave reviews and 5-star ratings.

DigiTrax is excited to announce that it’s new mobile-karaoke app is now available to Android users and is awaiting final approval for release in the Apple App Store. With Sing-N-Share you’ll have access to thousands upon thousands of hit songs that you can sing, record, and share through social media anywhere at anytime.

“I have a lot of fun with this app!” stated one user in his review, “Especially since I am way too shy to sing in front of a bunch of people.” Another user said “This thing is awesome!!!!! My friends and I have started singing competitions!” Great idea! Bring your friends and family closer together through a little friendly competition. 🙂

My friends, I’ve used the app myself. I’m not big on singing in front of people, but I’m really having fun with this thing! I like all sorts music but I’m particularly fond of 90’s alternative and pop rock. Those were my high school and college years after all! Yesterday, I sang and recorded my own rendition of “Found Out About You” (originally performed by the Gin Blossoms). The track was beautifully produced and sounded so close to the original it was amazing. I recorded it and then posted it on Facebook, taking no small amount of courage on my part, with no problems whatsoever.

Try it! I promise you’ll like. It’s free, easy to use, and a lot of fun. Get it here in the Google Play store. If you’re an iPhone/iPad person, fear not. You’ll have your chance to join in the fun very, very soon!

Karaoke Christmas Bundle Spotlight: “We Three Kings”

We Three Kings

With only eight days left before Christmas, Karaoke Cloud invites you to join us as we continue our series on some of the most beloved Christmas songs and carols of all time. Today’s choice; “We Three Kings.”

Originating sometime in the mid to late-1850’s (1857 being the most agreed-upon year), We Three Kings was written and composed by Reverend John Henry Hopkins Jr., a deacon in the Episcopal Church who was later ordained as a priest in 1872. The hymn was first featured in a holiday pageant organized by Reverend Hopkins in 1857, however, it did not appear in print until 1863 when it was included in Hopkins’ Carols, Hymns and Songs.

Known alternately by the titles “We Three Kings of Orient Are,” or “The Quest of the Magi,” the song tells the tale of three “wise men” who travel from a distant land in order to find and pay homage to the Christ Child shortly after his birth. Though the actual details of the journey itself are widely disputed (see here for an interesting, more esoteric twist on the traditional story), the tale itself has become a major part of Christmas tradition and is celebrated by believers world-wide.

We hope you enjoy singing this classic tune. Remember that you can download this and many other Christmas carols and hymns at karokecloud.com. You can also sing, record, and share your own renditions of all these songs with our free Sing-N-Share app for all Android and Apple devices.

We hope to see you all back with us again next time for more background on some of your favorite Christmas music and a bit of Christmas cheer! See you soon.

Karaoke Christmas Bundle Spotlight: White Christmas

31676_8659

Last week, Karaoke Cloud released a bundle of 15 of the world’s best-loved Christmas songs at a special price for our loyal followers and friends. Since then we’ve been spending some time looking into the origins of each of these classics and today we come to one of my personal favorites, “White Christmas.”

Written, ironically, by the great Jewish composer Irving Berlin in 1940, White Christmas is considered to be the top selling single of all-time with over 50 million copies sold world-wide. Adding to the irony of the song’s origins, the two locations at which it is thought Berlin wrote the song are about as far removed from its subject matter as it gets; warm and sunny La Quinta, California and the desert-state of Arizona.

White Christmas was first performed publicly by Bing Crosby on his radio show The Kraft Music Hall on Christmas Day, 1941. He later recorded the song with Decca Records in May of 1942 as one of six songs for the film Holiday Inn. Though the song was originally overshadowed by other tracks on the album, White Christmas ended up spending 11 weeks at the top of the Billboard charts that year alone and regained the #1 spot during the 1945 and 1946 holiday seasons. Today, White Christmas is still the only single to have ever claimed the top spot three separate times on the US charts. The wild success of the single led to Crosby filming the musical “White Christmas” in 1954 and the rest, as they say, is history.

White Christmas, both the song and the movie, will forever be embedded in American pop-culture. Try your chops at this beloved classic and many others for free with our new Sing-N-Share app for all Apple and Android devices. And wherever you are, “…may all your Christmases be white.”

Sing-N-Share Is Coming To Town: Just in time for Christmas carol-oke!

For weeks now DigiTrax Entertainment LLC (DTE) has been teasing the release of its newest and most innovative mobile appSing-N-Share. In collaboration with one of the world’s premier software firms, Deansoft, DTE is closing in quickly on a release date and is anxious to share this new interactive masterpiece with the public.

“Sing-N-Share is a perfect tool for bringing friends and family together,” stated Cathy Vangieri, Project Manager for DigiTrax Entertainment. “Not only is it a great way to spend time with those closest to you,” she continued, “but it also allows the user to share the fun with loved ones, near and far, through social media. Music is such an integral part of the Christmas season, perhaps more so than any other holiday. That’s why we’re pushing so hard for a pre-Christmas release.”

With Christmas only weeks away final touches on the app are being put into place even as this article is being written. David Grimes, Marketing and Public Relations Manager for DTE, stated today that “The beta app is absolutely amazing and performs beautifully. We’re very excited for consumers to have the chance to finally get their hands on the app and start enjoying the Facebook and Twitter integration.”

Sing-N-Share, as stated earlier, is projected for a pre-Christmas release and will be available on both iOS and Android powered devices. This means that music and karaoke enthusiasts world-wide won’t have to wait much longer before they can share in the fun for themselves.
